Josep Mª Serentill started the wholesale commercial activity of truffles in bulk. He mainly sold to wholesale companies in France, which then distributed the products around the world.
With part of the French capital, the company Laumont was formed, with a view to being a purchasing head office for its French branch, for all the mushrooms growing in Spain. Without question, the company was lucky to be able to be part of an international group and, at the same time, to have sufficient independence to be able to continue developing the business.
Laumont set up the current factory in Tàrrega (Lleida), specialized in the handling of truffles and mushrooms, with a surface area of 800m2. Currently, it is the head office of the company, where the more complex operations take place.
Laumont set up a handling centre in Valladolid to be able to manage all the collection routes from Castilla and León, Galicia and Extremadura, some of the richest regions in mushroom production in Spain.
The growing demand for products such as mushrooms and truffles in Barcelona led the company to open a stand in the main fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Barcelona, where for the first time the company began to sell its products on national territory. This was a turning point in the company's sales strategy.
It was not enough to serve the customers from Barcelona truffles and mushrooms are a very delicate product and customers need the service the same day they place the order. A sales point was opened in the main fruit and vegetable market in Madrid.
The sales points in Mercamadrid and Mercabarna were modernised, their facilities were renovated and extended to move on from selling small volumes of wild mushrooms to selling a large volume of cultivated mushrooms, thereby providing more regularity and stability to the market activity.
The company was fiscally and financially restructured and the Laumont group was divided into two companies: Laumont S.L.U, dedicated to the sale of mushrooms; and Laumont Truffles S.L.U, linked to the sector of truffles and associated products. In this way, the group sought to have the utmost clarity, transparency and solvency in each of the activities.
Following the renovation and extension process, a stand was opened in the main fruit and vegetable market in Mercabilbao, to directly serve one of the regions with the most sophisticated gastronomical culture in Southern Europe.
A new processing warehouse was opened in Valladolid. This was characterised by state-of-the-art technology and an improvement in the efficiency of the production chain. The warehouse operates under the IFS food safety standard. Global Laumont S.L. was founded to concentrate all our companies in one group, as well as to facilitate the management of our future strategy for growth and expansion.
